It’s day nine and Kari Ann is back. The first thing she does is hug Shelly, who is fantasizing about throwing her on the ground and stomping on her neck. Actually, probably not because Shelly is a more evolved human being than most of us. Drew reminds us that Kari Ann was on Sex Rehab but had to be removed for being a terrible spoiled brat. Shelly starts going through Kari Ann’s stuff. She finds a bag with crystal in it. She immediately flushes it. Kari Ann claims to be embarrassed. She says she’s never gone three weeks without crystal since she started smoking it. She says she wants to be in rehab but doesn’t know if she’s ready for it. Lisa, Mindy and Mackenzie stop by to introduce themselves and say hi. As they walk away they have a problem that Kari Ann has a big bed and her own room. Just wait, ladies. You will have a lot more problems with Kari Ann.
Kari Ann is meeting with Drew alone. She claims again to be embarrassed about her drug use. She runs through her drug history and when they get to the fact that she takes adderall the first problem arises. Drew says it’s a problem. She says she can’t focus without it. He sticks to his guns. Kari Ann appears to go straight to bed.
Day ten. Loesha is gathering everyone for group. She goes to wake Kari Ann, who whines about being tired. Drew says meth addicts feel empty without their drug. She gets out of bed but says she’s not going to a meeting. Loesha tells her she has to go. Kari Ann starts to cry and when that doesn’t work she starts to yell. Loesha tells us it’s because she’s coming off the drugs.
In group they talk about some people in the group being sicker than others. Bob says, as an example, that Tom is a complicated case. Heidi gets all offended. She consistently does pretty terrible things to undermine her fellow patients. I can’t figure out why no one has called her on it. She asks what’s complicated about Tom being a drug addict. Bob says Tom has ignored consequences even better than the rest of them. They talk about Tom’s homelessness, then they talk about the fact that Heidi is no great prize, either. When Drew calls on Kari Ann, she blames her confusion and lack of focus on not having adderall. Drew sums it up for her with: addicts need people.
It’s almost midnight on day ten and Monroe has come to visit Tom. Drew reminds us that Monroe likely brought drugs in last time. The PRC staff searches Monroe and asks her for a urine analysis. She refuses. Will dismisses her from the PRC. She tells the cameras some nonsense in an attempt to paint her plight as sympathetic. Will and Loesha go through the bag Monroe brought for Tom and find prescription drugs. The next day Drew and Shirley sit down with Tom to talk about getting Monroe into treatment. Tom seems to think she’ll do it and seems remarkably appreciative about it.
Later on day eleven Heidi is talking about Tom’s homelessness. Mike tells her to back off and Tom just sits there smoking then gets up and leaves. Heidi is being super mean, talking about how horrible Tom looks. Drew calls Heidi in to talk about Tom. She claims to have no emotion about him but wants to make sure Drew knows that she’s stronger than Tom. Drew suggests they process their past problems but Heidi says she can’t care. Then for no reason at all she talks about how Tom will never get his career back. Before she leaves she claims that she is nice to everyone. Drew tells us she is an interesting patient.Outside, Tom and Heidi are talking about how determined they were to stay high and how lonely they are and how great their sex life was.
The patients pile in the PRC van and go to a church where a coffin has been set up as if for a funeral. A woman who is now a MADD Guest Speaker tells the story of how she thought she was a functioning alcoholic until she drove drunk, drifted into oncoming traffic and killed a guy. It’s super sad but she’s given the same speech so many times that it sounds rehearsed. Still, she’s crying, Heidi’s crying, Mackenzie, Lisa, and Shelly are all crying. Even Dennis looks a little upset but maybe he’s just bored. The patients thank her for sharing her story and there’s hugs all around.
Back at the PRC it’s time for the first of what will surely be many Kari Ann tantrums. Her cigarettes are in a soft pack instead of a hard pack and it’s ruining her life. Loesha is the one to have to deal. She tells us it’s hard to stay compassionate. Kari Ann talks to her manager on the phone about cigarettes and the stupidity of the PRC staff while Dennis, Lisa and Mackenzie witness it in disbelief. Loesha somehow comes up with an acceptable pack and Kari Ann takes it and walks out. Lisa tells us that Kari Ann is negative, that everything she does is snappy and rude.
Drew tells us it’s absurd to think an addict can return from recovery to live with a using addict and maintain sobriety. He gets together with Tom to prepare him for a meeting with Monroe about entering treatment. When she comes in Tom immediately tells her that they want her to go to rehab. She says maybe but when Tom asks again she just giggles. Suddenly Tom says he wants to go home. Drew makes him repeat it about a hundred times. Monroe tells him he’s not done. He asks her if she threw out all the drugs and she says she did. She sits there smiling at Tom strangely. Drew says something doesn’t feel right to him. He asks Tom why he’s sweating and Tom doesn’t answer. Tom and Monroe get up and as they leave the room Tom says to her, “Walk to the car and take me home.” They stand outside and hug while he repeats, “Take me home.” So weird. Did she somehow manage to slip him drugs when she walked in? Why did he start sweating and why the 180 about treatment?
